A Better Polk County for Everyone!

About Us

Polk Citizens For Good Government is a countywide coalition of community, business, agriculture and civic groups and leaders who are working together to support three charter changes that are on the November 2008 General Election ballot.

Amendment One will eliminate costly special elections and require that future issues be voted on in general elections only.  Amendments Two and Three will require a 60% approval of the voters on all future charter amendments or ordinances that are proposed by initiative.

Polk Citizens for Good Government supports all three amendments and believe that these initiatives will protect the Polk County Charter, will ensure that there is more participation of voters on important issues by having them on the ballot during general elections, will require that issues which are presented to voters be clear and simple, and will save taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars.

We have two broad goals:

Education: We will be a source of information on what these proposed charter amendments mean and we will sponsor educational materials, forums or communications to help our citizens get educated about the proposed changes.

Advocacy: We will concentrate our efforts on advocating important information to the public, media and voters for support of Amendments One, Two and Three that will be on the November 4, 2008 ballot.
